Self Portrait - Washington 2005

I began my study of photography with black and white at the age of fifteen, and at seventeen I was hired on at a studio where I learned and practiced the rules of formal studio lighting and portraiture. While I found the education invaluable, I decided the indoor studio was not for me. Since that time I have explored various styles of photography and printing techniques... studying books and works from Ansel Adams and the Westons up through many contemporary artists of today. Through most of this time I have struggled to find my own personal "style" of photography, believing that I should settle upon one concrete way in which to present my view of the world. In recent years, however, I have come to the conclusion that my view of the world is liquid, not solid... and the work I do reflects the ebbing and flowing of my vision.
